Default Stupid popups!!!

The past few days I've been getting pop-ups in IE repeatedly... Pain in the ass... It led me to believe I had viruses/spyware. Spyware search came with basic stuff but now I seem to get two or three viruses daily. I don't know, but it may be from a no-no site... :)

Lol, anyways, it's time for a XP reinstall again. It takes like 10 minutes anyways... Lol. The only problem I have is backup... I guess I have my iPod now for music, but I have nothing for my videos (not all are MP4). So I need to obtain an external or get the Xbox (200GB HD baby!) for backup....

Anyways, back to the problem. I run Ad-Aware and Avast Pro. Maybe use diff apps?

There's Windows Defender as well. Thing is, when you surf pron sites, you are downloading the stuff and asking it to run.

My IE quit working, so I had no choice but to switch to Firefox (either that or Flock or Songbird - but Firefox won the recent browser battle over at Maximum PC).

Yeah, I know Tom. I have no clue what I was thinking... Wait, yeah I do...

BTW, yes, I use Mozilla but still get IE popups and the occasional Mozilla popup. I'll try Spybot though.

when you use IE, you are asking for trouble...

Best thing to do, if you have to look at that crap, is create a limited account on your computer and use only that account when surfing the "other" sites. After each "session" on that account, completely clean all browser caches.

Oh, I almost forgot. I use Adaware, SpybotSD and Windows Defender to keep my system clean of the evil-"wares" out there. That being said, some of these things are more tenacious than these programs can handle. Hi-Jack This can help you define the infection and then a Google search will tell you how to get rid of it. Just make sure that when you run Adaware, when it finds all the bad files, you choose to fix or delete them and not quarantine them. Otherwise, SpybotSD will return false positives when it does its scan.

You can also run Hijackthis to get a list of crap that spybot/adaware does not remove. Copy/paste the log on here if you do not know what to remove and what to leave. Many of the listed files you will need, so do not run it and delete everything like you do with most spyware removal tools.

There are other programs out there too that will remove other nasty little files/trojans/viruses but hijackthis is one of the best and you don't have to worry about a windows reinstall.

Since switching to Firefox a while ago, I can say that I hardly get any pop-ups, once in a while, only a few times a month. If you visit a lot of "questionable" sites, you are asking for trouble. Pop-ups and other nasty s***. You know the ones I'm talking about.

You are still running IE?
I thought no one used that browser anymore.
