Default Sputtering in audio output in certain games

I noticed this problem with GTA: San Andreas at first, when it rains, I get this sort of sputtering noise coming from my speakers, but only when it rains.

I also was playing Zelda on Project 64 and I noticed this noise as well.

Here is what it sounds like
Sputtering Noise - Putfile.com

Notice the pt pt pt pt it makes?

It doesn't do it when playing music or videos either.
I know it's not my speakers, because they never do that when plugged into my Wii or DS or Zen. And its not that I have the wrong drivers, I just reinstalled the latest drivers from Creative's website and it still is having this problem. (I looked at the card itself and it says "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS" Model No. SB0350, and used that number to get the drivers for it.)

Could the card just be dead? I've had it since June '04 from my first HP gaming-specific computer.

Windows XP Pro

But on the last two installs of Windows XP Pro I used this same card, and I didn't have any problems with it.

Checked Device Manager for hardware errors? Also make sure that all your sound settings are set on the speaker configuration you're using, and you might try reseting the configuration settings in the sound card's control panel (if there is one, my X-Fi has a control panel that, at the wrong settings, will give me similar results).
