Default Sound problem...

The sound volume went poop today. Last night, my mom was using Skype and it was just fine, and when she got on this morning, it wasn't very loud at all. The master volume and wav are both at 100%, and there's no volume knob on my speakers. Any idea what it could be?

The moment I opened Skype, my volume (output, not the slider) jumped to about 100x what it was. Very strange that it didn't show up on the sound card. I didn't find any info about the volume in Skype's preferences. Any way to prevent that from happening again?

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Not sure if this is related, but Skype would mess with my sound settings, so I did the following:

- Under TOOLS select OPTIONS
- On the left hand column, click SOUND DEVICES
- Uncheck Let Skype adjust my sound device settings
