Default Sony Vaio, Can't Log in.

My neighbor has a Sony Vaio VGC-RC210G with Windows XP Media Center. He put Internet Explorer 7.0 on his computer after he did, he rebooted and now he can't log into his computer. No matter which account he tries even Administrator. When he goes to Log in it just logs him right back out and boots him back to the Windows Log in Screen.

I tried every safe mode option windows gives you and no dice. It won't even boot to a command prompt, it goes right to the windows log in screen.

His computer didn't come with restore discs, so I can't even restore the computer. I am at a loss with this one. I told him to call Sony and see if they can help.

No restore disc makes it tough. If Sony can't help which they probably can't you might try installing Linux that way the computer is useable or buy a windows cd.

It does indeed make it tough, especially with no floppy.

You could always try and repair it with another windows CD via the recovery console or do a repair installation, but I'm not sure it would help. Chances are you'll be buying a new disk.

If you can find a way into the recovery console, read this:

How to restore deleted user accounts and their group memberships in Active Directory

I was going to suggest making a new account from the recovery console and seeing if that helps, but I'm not sure of its possible.

Just throwing some ideas out there, this one has me past stumped.

This isn't my computer, the guy wants it legit, so He is calling Sony. I thought maybe some one here might have run into this issue.

He knows the passwords, some thing is jacked up with the log in.

I have a few Media Center disks, can copy one for you. Should work with his CD key.

In the mean time, slave his drive to your computer to back it up. Easiest I've found to do if he has a lot to back up is to buy a new larger drive, if he has a large drive to begin with, maybe get a 40 gig. You can slave that as well. Does he have sata? Once it's backed up, try running disk check, fixing errors. Hopefully this will work (worked for hubby's machine) then you can do what you need to do.

I got it figured out. I went on the Sony Web Site and found This. Called my neighbor told him to press F10 during reboot, and it worked.

My Wife also has a Sony Vaio, 3 of them actually. She said there is preinstalled software that will allow you to create Recovery DVDs.

Come to find out my Wife is the one that recommended Sony Vaio to my neighbors wife in the first place. See what happens when you let women talk.
