Random Blackscreens?

The pc stays on, because my lights are still on, but the display is gone. IT happens randomly. could be the video card. not sure?

Could be the graphics card, PSU, motherboard, RAM, or monitor. Check the graphics card and monitor first though, including the wiring.

This may be way off, but when we received LCD monitors at work I found this happend on a few of them. All of a sudden that screen would go black and would not come back. What I had to do was default out the monitor refresh rate back to 60. The screen was going into power saver/screen saver and would not sync back up I think.

If you have another monitor laying around, ok I know that most people don't, try plugging it in and see what happens. You also try turning off the sleep/screen saver functions that change the mode of the monitor.

Just an idea.

Justin, run Driver Cleaner and install the newest drivers.....then maybe run a game or two to try to stress the card.....if theres no pattern to the black screens....try resetting your BIOS to default (Clear the CMOS, just in case).

CMOS cleared when i had to manually turn of the computer. Been running stock speed since. I think the videocard finally just gave out. I turned my rig back on, and in a little while later, it just died on me again. I saw some display lag too.

Anywais, i'm going to hopefully get my 7600gt this weekend.
