Default PSU died =( Heeelp

Hello I'm new here. My PSU died on me only cause I was retarded and forgot to change the switch to 230V instead of 110V cause i bought it from out of town. Luckily nothing was connected to it. So I switched the switch and connected it to the motherboard. It lit up but turned off off after 15 seconds with no beeps or anything. All the fans turned as well. I'm panicking and going crazy at the same time. Are my components dead?!?! I just bought everythiing for my computer :/

Wait, so your a country with 230v mains? Correct. Every computer PSU has an internal voltage doubler, that activates when set to 115v, to boost the voltage to 230v for the components to use. If set to 115v in a 230v country, you would have effectively send 460v into components expecting half that. Basically your PSU is toast, and your lucky it didn't go out with a bang either. Your hardware SHOULD still be okay, if you had the PSU set to 115v without being connected to anything. Try getting a PSU out of a spare computer to test your parts to make sure they are still alright.

Thanks a lot for the help. Well, I took out 3 of the 4 rams that I had in. It turned on and posted. So I geuss I'm waiting for another PSU tomorrow. I don't know if its a good idea to use the psu that I have in now but it worked. I guess it was damaged so that it outputs less power and when I took out the 3 ram slots out it had enough power to make the computer function? Thanks again.

RAM is commonly powered by the 3.3v or 5v rail. If you can, I would try to run Memtest86+ on each stick of RAM at a time, to make sure it is all alright.

I just tried it out 3 out of the 4 rams work. The last one wont post. Do you think its dead? Wouldn't make sense that only one of the rams would get fried? Or that maybe it didnt work in the first place? Thanks.

Try inserting two "working" ones, and see if it still posts. There is a good chance that your PSU may have burnt out your RAM. It may be best to wait until a new PSU arrives to continue testing, to make sure the power output is stable as possible.

Do you have a Digital Multi Meter?

Three of them at once posted and then the psu went out. THen I tried just one working one and that worked. The one that doesnt work though didn't work in any of the slots, hopefully I can get it RMAed. Nope don't have a multimeter nearby.

If they PSU went out with 3 sticks, I would stop using that PSU ASAP. It means its probably severally damaged, if 3 sticks of RAM makes it die. Its actually a miracle its still functioning.

Yea should be buying the new psu in an hour or so. I have to rma the ram in pairs so I'll have 2gbs to play with. I read that the 4gb can't be used completely in 32bit Windows?

Yup, You'll be limited to about 3GB.
