Default Problems with duel booting

I have messed up my duel boot system. Remember when I could not get Rise of Nations to run at all on my main XP rig but did get it to run on my internet server running Win 2000 Pro (ran really crappy but it did run)? Well I already have 2 copies of Win XP Pro on my main rig. One set up for games only and the other for the internet and all other apps. Now I know that you are not supposed to install older OS after newer ones (so I have read) because it could mess up your newer OS. Well I thought I would try my luck and installed Win 2000 Pro as a third OS on my main rig. I installed same motherboard sound, chipset and lan drivers and same Optimized Nvidia drivers as I have on both XP installations. I then install RON. The game ran GREAT! Nice smooth graphics. No problems at all. YAY! Ok so I try to reboot into Win XP and it tries to load 2000 back up only with an error about a corrupt or missing file. Oh boy! Ok so I think to my self, I am screwed. First I loaded the Win XP recovery consol and rebuilt the Boot.INI file. No change. I tried to recreate the boot sector on first HD, no change. My Gaming XP is installed on the first HD so I did a repair (not reinstall) on it. Rebooted and it booted just fine into my regular Win XP. I then try to boot into Gaming XP and during the boot I get a blue screen with some text and it reboots automaticly. The blue screen and reboot happends so fast that I can't even read what the blue screen says. I can boot into Win 2000 and main XP but not Gaming XP on the first HD. Anyone know how to fix this without completely reinstalling my Gaming XP OS?

I hate it when boots duel
i always just went to the Recovery Console and typed in "fixboot" and then "fixmbr"

see if that helps, at least it can't hurt

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Screwball was right on target. But if that doesn't work out, I recommend installing Grub.

Grub's an open-source MBR/bootloader. Just pop in an Ubuntu cd, open a terminal, and type "grub-install" (I believe.. may have to google it).

WOOOHOOO!! I fixed it. It finaly let me in safe mode on Gaming XP. I removed the video drivers via device manager. I also disabled all startup items via msconfig. I rebooted and it worked. I reinstalled the video drivers and rebooted. So far so good. Now I just have to turn on the startup items one by one and reboot to see if it was one of them giving me headaches. Thanks for your help guys. Never ever going to do that again. Lesson learned.
