Default Problem at Work

ok i have a problem. I upgraded all the ram in the office at work. Apparently, when typing and modifing a shared file, (all teh cmoputer are connected to a "server") it is slower than before.

Here is some info.

Lets call the computer i'm having trouble with computer A and the server computer, "server".

i added another stick of SDRAM pc 133 into computer A. This adds up to 512.

The server i changed to use DDR and is using one gig stick of the corair 3500LL pro, from rich. Rated pc 3500.

All the mobos are rated to use maximium pc 2700.

I didn't wear a shock band or anything and i did come into contact with the SDRAM while walking on carpet. DOH

I opened up microsoft word and just kept typing to find the lag that mom talks about, but didn't find anything.

Now. The dilemma is, weather its the server or computer A. Right now the server has the 3500pro but i tihnk its set to 133mhz speeds still. Mabye if i changed that back to auto, it might help? I'm not sure. I could use memtest, but that could take a real long time.

hmm. well after a bit of thought. I think there is something wrong with the server.

Aunt tells me that when doing invoices even with only 1 computer on besides the server, its still very slow.

This kind of sounds like a power issue. How many things are plugged into the same wall socket? I donn't know the electric systems in Canada so....

One time at a lan party we all plugged into the same source and ppls computers got very slow. Then I turned on my PC and the breaker threw....

I would definitely set the speed back to Auto first and foremost...

The other thing to look at on the server (and quite frankly on all of the workstations) is if in the process of upgrading/changing out the memory you reverted from Dual Channel to Single Channel mode on the machines...

I don't recall any mobos that supported Dual Channel with PC133 RAM, so that shouldn't be an issue, but checking those types of things are always a plus...

My guess is its also something to do with the server, and single-channel mode (as well as running memory at a lower speed then its rated for) could indeed impact performance...

That being said, unless the applications are actually running from the server, you might also want to check out your network config - its possible that its just a coincidence...

Hope it helps,
