Default Problem with my harddrive...

Randomly, I'll hear the typical windows sound when a device disconnects, and my D: will disappear. Windows's taskbar will then pop up a bubble message saying something about "delayed write failed" etc etc. What's goin on, is my drive failing? My C: and D: are both partions of the same drive... if the drive was crapping out, wouldn't my c: go also? I don't know what's up and it's disturbing me =\. I'm considering just formatting, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Never heard of that one...hopefully someone else has.

Keep in mind if you are having MBR problems, a mere format may not correct them.

I guess one question that should be asked...is your D: a partition you set up, or your recovery drive?

a few links I pulled up for this error:

Error message that you may receive when you save or move documents in Windows XP: "Delayed Write Failed"

8 common causes for 'delayed write failed' errors

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I've gotten that error before while hotswapping drives and not waiting waiting for the drive to unload properly, but not ever with a partition on the same drive. That erroe normally happens when a drive is being unloaded from the desk top or power it down to quickly.
Maybe your partition is failing or the drive its self.

I set up the partition through Windows setup. My D: is simply storage. I haven't ever unplugged the drive while the computer was on, but it definitely makes the sound of a device being disconnected when it disappears...
