Default Problem with building.

Hi, I got my computer parts last night and it was going all well untll i booted up. Power suplly was making really strange noice. I unhooked cpu power and it turned up fine but when i pluged it back in it refused to even turn on unless cpu power was disconected. I tried it without cpu in and it still didnt work. I have no idea whats wrong and im thinking about returning the mobo for a new one but then again it could be the power supply so i need advise on whats wrong. Thanks for the help in advance.

Please give us some more detailed information about your system and the hardware you are using. Better yet, make a signature (per the forum rules) that list your hardware. That way we can give you specific advice and troubleshooting steps based on your particular situation instead of trying to read your mind.

well, this also happened to my bro in NC, but his is plug without a surgeprotector, so the PSU got surge, and fryed.

so its either you pluged it in without a surgeproc or you got a bad batch of PSU so be ready for RMA.

Well, the psu turns on all fine when cpu power isnt pluged in. Thats what made me think its the mobo. I also had a surge protector. But the psu did make weird noice and then just stoped turning on with cpu power pluged in. So i really have no idea what went wrong other then defective mobo, i guess im gonna rma both to be sure.

yup... that would be a better call, but what do you mean by CPU Power? do you mean the HSF?[the one with the 4pin in the upper right of the Mobo]

but my best bet would be the PSU fryed itself including the Mobo which totally sucks on your part.... so RMA'ing both is a good call...

btw make your official Sig....

before the frying gets your CPU and RAM the Capacitors will block it unless the surge is greater than expected...

It looks like a PSU problem, but you should definitely not rule out the motherboard. It's a good idea to RMA both like you said you wanted to. If you have an exchange policy or warranty left with the store you got it from go ahead and do that first. If not, RMA time.

Before RMAing though, I'd test that PSU in another system. I also recommend trying another PSU in the system. Take those 2 steps and then post back here, that will give us even more/better info to help you out.
