Default Problem

Ok my computer is at 100% (processing) for sum reason and is lagging like a mofo. Its sorta like what i would expect from playing a game or running folding but i should have stopped teh folding and even with that on, its never been this bad. In terms of lag. Anyone got suggestions? I'll try restarting computer to see if it will help.

Did this just happen or has your computer gotten slower and slower over the last few weeks or so?

Well, if you are running F@H then your computer will be at 100% load...
If it is disabled/paused and still at 100% and/or you are getting the lag you are talking about, then my first suggestion is to run some spyware scans (AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy and Microsoft's AntiSpyware app) as well as a virus scan. You can also go Start>Run and type msconfig, then hit enter, then click the startup tab and disable anything you know you can disable. That just helps to cut down on the number of programs that your computer starts and runs when it boots up into Windows. Just be careful though, if you uncheck something important, your computer might get messed up. So do the msconfig thing at your own risk. And if you are unsure about something, just leave it checked.

also, in addition to that, check in the Processes tab of Task Manager (can get to it in XP by pressing ctrl+alt+del). If you see certain processes that seem to be consuming an extreme amount of CPU bandwidth (expressed in percentage) and it doesn't appear to be a Windows process or process belonging to one of your applications, then there would be your problem, as sometimes you can get a virus or bot that's so bad that it adds a process to the list. But check F@H first definitely.

Even with F@H On it should not be causing any lag seeing how it is designed to give priority to other applications first.

Sounds like you have a virus/trojan or a serious spyware infection.. have you been downloading alot of stuff lately?

Also... is this when you are playing a game? or is it inside of windows?
