Hi, I have a P5Q deluxe - BIOS 1308. Installed 2xWD640 in RAID 1. After initial problems with RAID set-up and eventually exchanging one HDD that had been reported failed - after a few days of use - the system froze during a game play. Trying today to install another game - it froze towards end of installation...had to reboot three times... Now the RAID is 'initializing" as I see in the Intel Matrix Storage Manager..The weird thing is that it reports one of the HDD is generation 1 (150Mbs - this is the newly replaced one) and the other one is Generation 2 (300Mbs)....Is it possible that lla these problems to be generated by the SATA controllers - the Intel ICH10R or something else on the MB? I ran memtest and up to 3327 out of 4096 reported 0 errors (I'm using 4Gb with XP Pro 32 bit - I know it won't see the whole 4Gb...but I thought I'll have more than 3Gb available right now - and if I move to Vista 64bit - then I'll see all of them) The temps are OK for the CPU (32 and 36C in Real Temp). For the video card - CPU-Z reports 71-72C on idle - but I understand it's normal for a 4850 based card (VisionTek in my case). So - could the MB be the source of these issues? Thanks My new built: E8400; ASUS P5Q Deluxe; 2x2Gb 1066 PC8500+ OCZ Reaper; 2xWD640 HDD; VisionTek 4850; PCP&C 750W; Antec 900; LG DVD burner ![]()

Have you removed the jumper (which limits drives to 1.5Mb/s) from both hard drives? That would be the first thing I checked. Nice looking system btw! ![]() Last edited by drew and not u; September 5th, 2008 at 11:13.

No, I haven't looked into it (I'll check it when I get home from work)....still, would that be a reason for the system to freeze? Is the MB "out of the question"? | |

I would doubt it was the motherboard. It's possible, but if it's reporting different speeds between the drives, and you don't remember removing the jumper, that would be my bet. ![]()

I just got home and looked at the HDDs...no jumper whatsoever. Turned it on...at the first attempt it stayed in black screen between the XP flag screen and the blue welcome screen.....restarted....now it got into windows but no USB devices initially recognised, LAN/Internet not available and the RAID array is under "verifying and repair"....
