Default Post beep

Should I be getting a post beep with no video card installed and do the speakers need to be hooked up to get the beep? I've installed the HDD's and the CD drives. I have no video card yet and I was testing the fan rotation to make sure they were blowing in the right direction. The mobo has 4 green lights that light and a orange one. The four green lights blink if that makes any difference. The system is the one listed in my sig.

Yes you should get a beep code, and yes the speaker has to be hooked up. The speaker is the one with 4 pin holes, and the 4 pins it connects to should be labeled on the MoBo or you can find a diagram in your manual.

Here are some deals on 7600 GTs

Thanks Hitman, I probably just need to hook the speaker up then. I'll post back later and to let ya know if it works.

No problem, now I get to rant.

The front panel connectors are the one thing I hate most about building a PC. Why is it so freaking hard to make a damn standard for all cases and MoBos? How hard would it be to make a standard cable and a standard pin out? It’s gotten better over the years, but it still sucks.

I agree with the front panel connectors. Well I hooked up the speakers and still no post beep. Now I'm worried.

I've disconnected the HDD's and the CD drives, all thats connected are the power to the mobo 20 pin and 4 pin this is a 430 watt ps with a 20 pin connector for the main power and a 4 pin for a seperate connector and all the board lights are working. the speaker is hooked up thru the onboard audio in the rear. The ram modules are in the first two yellow slots and they were working when removed from another mobo ( these are the modules I got from Rich for forum member of the month ) The front connectors are also connected. Still no beep. :(

The cpu is the one you installed on the board Rich. Was it working or did you put it on without running it? Hopefully it's something I've done wrong and not irreversible.

no, that CPU was the one BBMods gave us to give to a forum member, and if its dead we'll replace it for you.
Lets not stress until we get a video card in theere and can actually see the post screen.
