Default Possible sound card failure?

Well, originally, I thought it was my Dell speakers dying out on me. I just hooked up my Z-5500s. As godly as they are, I'm in a quandary. It still skips audio. The audio will just drop out for a second or two. I'm leading more to the sound card failing.

I was thinking too much power running through one socket was cutting the audio (i.e. the amp saving itself), but it even happens at low volume, when it's using less power.

Is it the sound card or should I try another outlet.

Is the soundcard integrated? If it's not, you can always try to change slots. Maybe it's something with the drivers too?

try connecting the speakers to a portable device say Ipod or CD player. If you still get the drop out then its possibly the outlet. If it is the soundcard, try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for it (dont know if you have onboard or a PCI soundcard). Also could try re-seating the card into another PCI slot.
*edit*
polo said stuff as i was typing

Yeah, it's integrated.

Well, turns out I didn't completely plug in the speaker cable all the way so it would short out when it got loose. It's going dandy now. :)

I still might grab an Audigy 2 ZS...

Yup, it's the Dell. I may get my hands on a SB Audigy 2, so it'll be that then.
