Your best bet is to contact Phillips and request a new Recovery disk after explaining that yours has failed. Either that or you could buy a new copy of windows.

Just to be clear, you made the backup disk? Did you format (if not, don't)?

I don't see anything on Philips' website about laptops...
Maybe try just a general support contact for something computer related?

Default philips freevents x56 prob

Hey, just a quick note to let you know that PHILIPS does not make laptops. The laptops are actually made by Averatec and just branded with the PHILIPS name, thats why they are not listed on the PHILIPS website. I actually found that out when I called PHILIPS UK to enquire about the warranty, because I was bringing one back with me to Canada. That's one thing they don't tell you when you buy the laptop from PC World / CURRYS/ DIXONS UK , any how I returned the laptop and bought one off eBay for far less. I figured that either way I had no warranty so it didn't matter. You might want to check the Averatec website, you may find info there not sure if they will have anything . The only difference between the Averatec and the PHILIPS laptops is the PHILIPS units use Intel and Averatec use AMD.
The Averatec model that matchs the PHILIPS unit is 3715.

Hope this info is helpful.....

cheers

Hey deanch, I actually never opened the laptop when I bought it from PC World in the UK and it was still within the return period, so I returned it. Apparently only the Dixon group of companies sell PHILIPS Laptops, that's why if you go to other places you will never find it anywhere. I even checked on Tottenham Court Road in London, which I was told is where everyone goes for electronics, they told me the same thing. There are also some laptops that have the PHILIPS name that are made by TWINHEAD. You can do a search on google UK and find more info regarding this issue.

I also found out that if there is a problem/warranty concern with your laptop it's fixed by a third party repair shop that is linked to the Dixon Group. It never goes to PHILIPS, because like I mentioned before they do not deal with laptops.

As for your issue with the laptop getting hot, my X50 gets hot as well so I bought a laptop fan to help keep it cool.....it works OK. SEE LINK BELOW (I found this on ebay)

eBay: Portable Laptop Notebook Cooler Cooling Pad Stand 3 Fan (item 280108069992 end time Apr-24-07 19:54:31 PDT)

cheers
