New rig won't boot. NEED HELP!!!!!!!

Ok, so I built my new rig. since it's a e4300 (1.8ghz), wanted to overclock. Overclocked to 2.65ghz. Now BIOS keeps freezing up and keyboard unresponsive. Sometimes when DEL is pressed to go into BIOS, a blinking cursor appears at top of screen and thats all. Sometimes restarts at random.

Temps are fine. CPU temps are at 28C-31C. Stock voltage.

Your OC is unstable. Open her up and reset the CMOS or pull the battery out for about 20 minutes. To clear the CMOS, look for the jumper next to the battery





And move it to pins 2 and 3 for about 15 seconds, then move it back. This will reset everything in the BIOS.

And make sure your PC is turned off when you clear the CMOS via the jumper.

Alright, so the clearing of the jumper worked!!! Now the limit of my E4300 (at the present time) is only 2.4GHz without the keyboard "timing out" and the BIOS freezing up. I've heard that the E4300 overclocks much higher (in the 3GHz range). What am I doing wrong?

your ram could easily be holding you back

and its all about ratios and RAM stability when you want to overclock the CPU - its never just one thing that gets OCed. its complicated for a "beginner" (and if you aren't one dont take that the wrong way).

Try loosing up the RAM timings, get to your highest stable clock and then lower down the ram frequency. If that doesnt help much, look for the RAMs CAS latencies and raise their numbers by one point increments. This really slows things down, and if you have to raise the latency too much it pretty much negates the point of overclocking. Keep the frequency and FSB as high as possible, and the latencies as low as possible.

Upping the voltage to the CPU and RAM is normally needed for the highest overclocks, but do so carefully as you can fry your stuff if you raise it too high. A stable OC is different for every system, even with the same components, so you just have to find the perfect balance between what your CPU, RAM and FSB are capable of. Also running Memtest86 and SuperPi/Prime 95 help test to see how stable things are.

Alright, so I raised the voltage from stock (I think it's 1.31v?) to 1.45v. Still, can't even OC to 2.45GHz.

About the RAM, in the memory timings section in the BIOS, there are many different options to change. Which ones do I "loosen" to overclock higher?

The ones to look for are CAS Latency, RAS-to-CAS Delay, RAS Precharge and Act To Precharge Delay.
CAS Latency is the most important, and I find that it will effect your system the most out of the RAM timings. Loosening them up by increasing the latency will cause the RAM to work slower, but not to be as stressed so it can take the load of a faster FSB. Dont loosen them too much, or the your system will be slower overall then it was at stock. Your RAM should be able to hold a good overclock with tighter latency settings, but that depends on chips used in that particular module.
