Default new computer

Today I assembled a computerfor my girlfriend Nothing too fancy....
After I had completed assembly I checked to make sure all power was connected and good to go, it wouldnt even turn on, no fan spinning, nothing. I know it has power because the mobo has a power LED and its on. i checked the connections and they were good. even the power switch connecter. I then connected the power switch from my pc to hers and it still wouldnt turn on. but still had the green LED. I was frustrated, so I loaded Windows onto her HDD by my pc connected like a siamese twin.

So is it the mobo? the cpu? I need help!

mobo- ASUS A8N-E
cpu- Athlon 64
400W PSU

AMD Oteron @2GHz
Abit KN8 SLI
2 512 of kingston DDR
7600 GT GeForce
1 250Gb SATA WD HD
1 250Gb WD HD
500 W i think

I'm going to guess its the motherboard.......any other components and you'd at least get it to spin up or beep.

INTEL QX9650
ASUS P5E3 Premium
4GB DDR3-1600
Sapphire HD 3870X2
Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C)

Check to make sure the switch is properly connected to the motherboard. Its very easy to put the plugs on the wrong pins. Follow the diagram in your MoBo manual. Before you rule it’s the motherboard, make sure there is nothing wrong with the case switch, like a cut wire or something.

Very good point hitman! Also, unplug the cd, harddrive, and floppy, if you have a floppy, check that the reset, and power switch is connected properly. Also pull and cards that you have installed in the pci slots ie: modem, NIC, sound etc...
The only items that should be pluged in are the processor, video card, and RAM. Also see if your motherboard has the square 4 pin power plug on it.

Once the above is taken care of, then hit the switch.

Unfortunately I speak from experience. I had a system once that wouldn’t power up, after replacing both the PSU and the MoBo twice; I found a cut switch wire. It had gotten caught on the 3.5” cage and had gotten cut by the sharp edges. It was a cheap case, yet another reason not to buy cheap cases.

dont do what i did (and sometimes still do) with power switches and motherboards: connect the negative lead to the positive lead. always check that you have + to + and - to -

I don't think it matters on the switch. The purpose of the switch is to connect the current so the machine starts. Doesn't matter which wire is connected to which pin. I could be wrong but I don't think so.
