Exclamation NEED HELP!!!!

ok, I was just on my comp as normal, surfing the internet, listening to music and it hangs. Can move the mouse but nothing else. everything stops responding. so after a long wait i decide its time to reset. so I reset, powers back up, windows XP loading screen, still, still....... after a while it flashed BSOD then reboots straight away. let it reboot and it just says 'A disc read error has occured, press CTRL,ALT+DELETE to restart'.
(I can sometimes watch the loading screen again)
I just cant get back into windows. HELP!!!!

If its a falty part what would it be?

Ive had this before but I had delayed write failures days before it happened.

Sounds like your Hard Drive might be going bad. Please post the BSOD error.

hopefully your HDD didn't just take a crap on you, but I'd go ahead and try resetting your CMOS....try to see if your system will work at default settings....

Edit: Damn it, even with his bad ping, Joe still beat me to it.

I would post the error if i could read it, it just flashed up. resetting the CMOS didnt do it, already tried. The HDD is still in warranty, just the hassle of changing it.

Just quicker to the draw. What HD do you have gaswsx? It might still be under warranty, and you will be able to RMA it.

I know it's a PITA, but it's better then having to buy a new one.

It's definitely the hard disk, and your probably going to have to send it back. The only thing I can think of that might save it is to nuke windows and try to reinstall it.

hmm, since maxtor was bought out by seagate, I would think that you would need to contact seagate's customer support. Just give them a call and they should set you up ;)

Seagate Technology - Contact Us
