Default My system is lagging a bit

Hey, everyone! For a while since I had installed and removed AOL's McAfee Spyware scanner (which was a P.O.S.!), my computer has been experiencing minor lags in response to overall performance (like closing apps, or navigating through windows) and even simple mouse clicks.

I've been trying to think of what might be causing it, but I'm at a loss. Some of you might recall when I had posted about getting some lines of some kind on my monitor upon boot-up, that I had started to see after the McAfee thing, (which go away after booting is done)and I still get that a lot of times, but now it's moved up to the overall system lag. As for the lines, maybe that's my monitor, or my video card.

My system (as far as I can tell) is free of viruses and spyware, and the registry is in decent shape, so I'm starting to think of other things, like is my hdd having a read issue, or is my RAM having a problem? Is it my overclock? Do I need to reinstall the OS? It's not a huge issue, but it bugs me. My rig still does everything I want it to do, but there's that annoying lag of nearly a full second sometimes.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, or whatever Holiday you choose to celebrate! :santaclaus:

Run a full system scan with CCleaner to remove the temporary files and also run the registry cleaner several times until it fonds 0 errors... next try updating drivers or if you recently updated on major one, go back one or to versions.
Macafee and AOL like to maintain control of the system, many times even after removed.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Something you could try is a program (that I love to death) is EasyCleaner - cleans your registry of unneeded keys and more. I use this instead of ccleaner now, it's free too.

link Official ToniArts software pages

Thats the only thing I can think of that might help.

Good luck.

I used to use EasyCleaner registry cleaning function. Until it broke a few of my applications. I find the CCleaner registry cleaning function to be safer. :)

Edit: Oh new version 2.0.... I'm giving it a try haha :P

I usually use Registry Mechanic for reg scanning, and I just ran CCleaner a while ago. Maybe I'll give EasyCleaner a look. I think the problem I was talking about is still there, but sometimes it seems that it just depends on what I'm doing.

That is where Acronis true image would of been real handy!!!! You could of made an image before you installed that damn AOL crap, and been able to restore it now, and never even noticed the lag

Yeah that AOL crap is really annoying... So take notes on what your doing on your comp when it slows down. Might have screwed with other programs maybe I dunno just an idea.

I should NEVER have downloaded that McAfee crap program! I just assumed it was alright to get it, because McAfee isn't like a generic, no-name brand - but I should've known better, especially if they were teaming with AOL. My poor computer just hasn't been quite the same since I used it.
