Default Music software

I need some software that's got linear editing, kinda like macromedia flash, but I need it so I can drag and drop in audio files and then export it to an mp3.

note: it is preferable for it to be free =)

Look no further than Audacity. It can do anything you need with audio tracks, and it's open-source.

hahah yuri, Audacity looks an awful lot like Mobile Ringtone Converter

heheh

but that's still not what I'm looking for. Those are just mp3 editors.

Do u guys know what that Apple software is, comes with *shudders* iLife. i dont know what its called

[edit]Garage Band is what its called[/edit]

I need something like that. But free and for windows.

Where its got a capability to use a multitude of layers and I can just drop in some sound files into each layer (eg: one layer called drums, one layer called synth, one layer called beat, etc)

Audacity uses layers also. The only difference between it and Garage Band (besides the GUI) is pretty much just that Audacity will only work with what you already have or record; it doesn't come with drum beats and stuff.

Are you looking for something that will make the beats for you or just something to edit your own recordings?

I've got a buttload of sound files I can use. They are all in either WAV or mp3.

But I'm a fan of how the garage band is set up (GUI is pretty, too). it looks like Macromedia Flash and thats what I'm used to.

[edit] I'll give audacity a try though. Installing it now.

LOL! Someone is selling Audacity on eBay

AFAIK, Audacity's the only decent (free) alternative to Garage Band. I haven't been able to find anything else. Showing the audio levels for the display is pretty much the standard, and you're not gonna get much better than that for the most part.

Windows Movie Maker may be a step in the right direction (it can save audio as WMA as long as you don't have any images in the track) but it's limited to one layer.

Adobe Audition looks pretty similar. You can get a trial of it here.
