| Anyone want to take a shot at this? This error message comes up when the laptop gets into windows, and has since we downloaded some updates: RTHDCPL.EXE - illegal system DLL relocation The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occured because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows System DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL. I looked up the files mentioned in the error on my machine and I had three files come up, two of which seem to have to do with software distribution downloads (sp2gdr & sp2qfe), and the other was a system32 file. The HHCTRL.OCX seems to be a system driver file. Which file do you think it's referring to when it says to contact the vendor? If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |

| The Real Final Word | Ok, checking for the above problem, this is what I came up with RTHDCPL.EXE Description: rthdcpl.exe is a process belonging to the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel and is bundled alongside Realtek sound cards and audio hardware. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. Description: File rthdcpl.exe is located in the folder C:\Windows. The file size on Windows XP is 13179660 bytes. There is an icon for this program on the taskbar next to the clock. It is not a Windows system file. The file is a Microsoft signed file. rthdcpl.exe is able to record inputs. Therefore the technical security rating is 10% dangerous. Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as rthdcpl.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the rthdcpl.exe process on your pc whether it is pest. We recommend Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security. It is one of the Top Download Picks of 2005 of The Washington Post and PC World. Hope this helps. I does sound like you may have gotten a virus or trojun!!! |

| RTHDCPL.EXE is Realtek. Uninstall/reinstall the Realtek audio drivers. EDIT - Stingaling, you sphincter! :P Its not a Trojan, its legit - part of Realtek. You can't trust those goobers about what they say a certain process is, one time I was told one of those sites that svchost.exe was a virus :P Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe @ 2.80GHz Cooler Master GeminII - Thanks Rich and HL! | 5 Minute Mod Man | DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING. THIS IS NOT A VIRUS! I have already fixed this same error on two desktops this past week. A recent windows update has caused a dll error because of a conflict between the update and your realtek drivers. There is a fix for it. You can read about it here. There is a small file to download here that will fix it. If you are having problems with that, you can download it here from me. Afterward you MAY have to reinstall your Realtek drivers but most likely you will be fine when you reboot. Have a good day! |

| In the case of our laptop, uninstalling/reinstalling ANY drivers may be an issue, considering we didn't get any software discs with it. I'll have to see what Realtek, if any, software is in the LT and then determine if any software on discs I already have will work. There shouldn't be too much in the way of viruses/trojans, malware or anything like that, because we don't use the LT as much as we use the desktops. I'll have to read up on those fixes, PrOLifiC...thanks for the info! ![]() If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |
