Default lagging computer

umm, my computer is lagging, n its sumwhat new-ish, as in new parts, but, just recently, its been lagging, and i can't seem to find the problem, when i tried playing lineage, the login screen was really sound distorted, and i had really low fps. i opened intel audio studio prgram to find out if its like sume sound prblem or sumthing, n i changed the eq and styles of the sound. n most of them, were messed up. as in, the sound would lag a LOT, laging as ing like, the sound would play one second, stop, then keeps playing, so its cut off etc. can neone tell me whats wrong? or help me find the problem?

First, do what Capper told you.

Second, I would run malware scans - anti-virus and anti-spyware. Run the good programs, such as Panda's online scanner, AdAware, and Windows Defender.

Another thing that comes to my mind is the graphics card drivers. When a midrange or better graphics card is installed with Windows' default drivers, it shows the same signs you explained.

alright. Lets see, he recently upgraded his computer, his old psu, the 450watt smart pwoer didn't cut it, so they got a new one. I'm thinking its the psu problem though.

Its a 3.2ghz single core on a pentium D platform. Not sure exactly, but he is going to upgrade to a dual core pentium D 950.
His mobo is an Intel mobo that supports this cpu.
7900gt, 580mhz core. Stock, so its a pre overclocked one.
ddr-2 2 x 1 gig. Not sure exactly
antec true power i believe, is the current one, but i remember its not all that big either.
300gig HDD.
sonata one
stock HSF.

EDIT: drivers are all new drivers. However, come to think about it, i don't know if his dad knows to get eh drivers from nvidea or not. Hmm. I don't know. His dad thinks he knows it all, but seriously, sometimes i wonder about that. For instance he said that the pentium D 950 was one of the newest cpus, and i was like... No... its not. ROFL. (this was after conroe came out too)

thats all i know for now.

What i'm thinking, is that his computer uses too much power for that psu. I also had this one time yesturday, when i used I-tunes teh sound lagged whenever i moved the mouse. When i restarted the computer it worked, but aparently, today, when derek is playing lineage and what not, it lags whenever regardless of restarting the computer.

Antec TruePower 480W would handle that computer without a problem.
Try monitoring the voltage with a voltmeter. If you see any voltage drop (one is not that much of a big deal, once in a lifetime) you'll know what's the problem. My SmartPower 2.0 500W runs the PC in my sig alright, and TruePower 480W is better than SmartPower 2.0 500W. ;D

Not even close....my system only needs a 500W PSU (though I'm using a 1000W), there are PSU calculators on the net to check the voltage requirements. If it is the PSU, it maybe because its a poor quality PSU....but my money is on drivers (remember chipset drivers), or other software related issues.

check the BIOS settings regarding the CPU,also, check for heat issues.

Good thinking.

But I don't want to think about Nvidia SW IDE drivers, that's a nightmare most of the time. :P

Oh another thing, check the ram timings, try enabling spread spectrum on it too and see if it still lags.
