Connect the green wire on the 20/24 pin plug with any of the black wires. Then turn the PSU on and see if its doing the same thing, On, off, On, off... Possibly some bad caps in that PSU. | |

| Pete's a TT rep so he know's what he's doing :P Take his advice first, then also try taking everything out of the case and trying it then, then try it with no peripherals (Hard disks, optical drives, etc. ) attached, no add on cards except the video card (do they count as peripherals?) and just one stick of RAM, and testing it then. All you want it to do is post. If you can, try getting an alternate PSU to test it with, perhaps a TT one, right pete? :P Anyways, try to find a different PSU just to test it with. Just be sure its not from a Dell machine or other OEM with proprietary parts ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe @ 2.80GHz Cooler Master GeminII - Thanks Rich and HL! | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | When a system turns off within seconds of turning on, it's almost always one of two things: 1) Improper contact between the heatsink and CPU. If the heatsink isn't making sufficient contact, then your motherboard and processor's safeguards kick in, immediately shutting down the system. If you used thermal paste (such as Arctic Silver 5), then remove the heatsink and clean off the CPU and heatsink's surface (I recommend isopropyl rubbing alcohol >90% with q-tips, alternating between wet and dry swabs). Reapply the paste, being careful not to overdue it - you just want enough to fill in the microscopic nooks and crannies that the eye can't see (follow the instructions outlined by your paste manufacturer). And finally, reattach the heatsink, making sure it's securely fastened, and plug in the heatsink's fan directly to your motherboard. There should be a 3 or 4 pin connector very close to your CPU socket for this. If you used the thermal pad that came pre-applied to your heatsink's base, then remove the heatsink, but don't clean it off. Reapply, again making sure the fit is snug and that you plug the fan into the motherboard. Even if the heatsink already feels securely attached, you still want to remove and reinstall. 2) The other common culprit is a grounding issue, where your motherboard is coming into contact with metal and shorting itself. Make sure you've installed standoffs in your case, and they're correctly lining up with the holes on your motherboard. It's very easy to install an extra standoff, or place one incorrectly, and when it makes contact with your motherboard, it shorts it out. Also check for any loose screws that may have been dropped and floating around. |
