Default HELP New build with Blue Screen Errors

I recently built a new computer. I got my first visit from the BSOD while playing FEAR. Using a program that came with my MOBO i noticed that my CPU FAN was only spining at 800rpm. I went into the BIOS and disabled the MOBO control. The fan now spins at maximum, so I dont think my CPU is overheating. I ran memtest with no problems. And I actually restored my harddrive after the original BSOD for non related reasons. The last BSOD never fully displayed so I cant give you an error code, but the first one mentioned win32k.sys. Looked that up on the internet found it might have something to do with 3rd party remote controls. So here are the questions i have; What is a 3rd party remote control? and Where do I go from here to ID the problem? I dont think Newegg is going to like me RMAing individual components back to them over the next few weeks in hopes that one of the parts is faulty.

Specs

Corsair 520w PSU
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
2 x Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Intel e8500 wolfdale 3.16 dual core
EVGA 8800GTS 640mb
Weatern DIgital 640G HD

What sound card do you have in there? Do you have all the updated drivers for your soundcard, and video card. Do you have the latest patches for FEAR? I think it may be bad drivers somwhere down the line.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

the next time they happen, write down each BSOD message... that will cut out lots of speculation or false hopes. If it changes each time then it may be memory or faulty hard drive.
Also was this a clean install of windows or did you transport this install from another PC or use a ghost or image of it??

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I do not have a sound card(on a side note should I get one) I will update FEAR. All drivers are up to date. Now that I want to see the error codes and cant get the BSOD to rear its ugly head again. And it is a clean install with Win xp SP2

Oh and it happend while playing Portal also, so that doesnt narrow down the problam to one program.

As long as you have an on board high definitian audio chipset, buying a soundcard will give you absolutely no improvement over your sound quality. Soundcards were created for people who had HORRIBLY onboard sound back in the days of windows 95-2000 but since onboard audio has gotten better, the need for extra sound cards is pointless now. It will NOT make your pc perform any better, and it will most likely not sound much better.

Does it ONLY crash when running a game? Has it ever crashed just during normal PC use?

onboard is great for sound, just any sound, no real quality though
dedicated cards are great for quality sound and surround sound

I have picky enough ears that I can tell the difference between onboard and even a basic SB Live card... and with my X-fi, my ears were dancing away with joy, amazing what you miss with onboard or cheap sound cards

Yes the first time it happened i think I was ripping two DVDs and surfing the internet. The system hung for a second then all I saw was blue and a bunch of words and numbers. That is when I saw the win32k.sys line. The second was with Portal and the third was during FEAR. I restored the HD between the 2nd and 3rd occurence. I ran 3dmark and no issues, thinking that if I taxed my system that the weak point would fail, which it did not.

another suggestion... get your signature with the basic computer specs so the troubleshooting is made a bit easier.

BSOD'ing on something other than just a FS3D game makes it even harder to pinpoint. There's no way someone can just come up and tell you exactly what is wrong at this point. It could be a variety of things.

One thing you might want to do though, is download CPU-Z and check your CPU speed, and memory clocks and timings. If you did not overclock or modify anything, then make shure it's running as advertised when you bought each part.

Ran CPU-Z and see that core core speed is 2000mhz with 6x multi and occasionally it jumo up to the advertised 3.16 with 9x multiplier. The volts are stable at 1.19-1.2. So, my CHIP is a POS or is it my MOBO. Working on my sig.
