If it was anything but Vista, I'd be worried. You might try using Hijackthis and see what is running and using resources.

I know how you're feeling, I find my Vista to be accessing my drives WAY too often for my taste.
Disable indexing
Disable automatic defrag
Disable ShadowCopy (system restore)
Disable Windows Defender auto-scan
Disable automatic updates downloading

To see which program is accessing the hard drive, in the new start menu type "perfmon" in the search box and press enter. In the classic start menu, Run->"perfmon" and press enter.
In the left section highlight Reliability and Performance (first entry), then in the right pane expand the Disk section by clicking the arrow at the end of the line.

Then you can order the columns by Read (bytes/min) or Write (bytes/min) and see which ones are hogging your hard drive. It might be good to diagnose a faulty program (I've seen some 32bit programs always try to load and hanging on me a few times).

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

I will try all mentioned above.I restarted in safe mode, ran McAfee and found nothing wrong,I stopped all nonessential programs, ran a registry cleaner and shredded all junk. While running virus scan,I watched the programs being scanned, and saw a shit load of domains, some of which were pornogaphic in nature.I also noticed that at the end the number of files checked were over 400K....thats not normal for me too have.I normally have under200K.Temp folders had over 20MB of shit in it that only showed with the scan.
My son has PS3...can he access the internet and search like I can with a pc? He is hooked up through a router through my system.I'm wondering if it is his problem more than mine, thats causing trouble here?

How do I disable indexing and shadow copy? The others I think I can handle.Theres a ton of stuff running on here. I disabled what I could from start up items, didnt do squat.
