Default Freq Over Range

alright i reformat and reinstall the windows home to my co-workers computer and when he got home and plug on the computer the monitor wont start keeps telling "Frequency Over Range"
and some DMP crap i cant remember ...

any idea what might happened, i might ask him to bring the monitor and cpu all together to my apt and see the problem myself. because i re-installed everything and it was working properly to my LCD monitor and everything...

Somethings not clicking right between the GPU and the monitor, and the refresh rate frequency is off kilter. Boot into safe mode through F8, enable VGA Mode which drops the resolution and refresh rate down (640x480 if I remember), and then go into the monitor settings and see if you can't get the resolution and frequency to their normal settings. Usually setting to Default works, Optimal does too but I just go with Default to be sure. Remember that an LCD is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate while a CRT is usually around 75Hz

depends on the monitor... some LCDs do state they can handle 60Hz or 70/72/75Hz and some CRTs can handle 60Hz only at higher resolutions but a step down can handle 70Hz or better... check the monitor documentation, sometimes being set to 72Hz when it can only handle 70 can do this

Thanks HL and Corsair!

the problem is he said that the monitor is not displaying anything but black screen and some error message " Frequency Over Range" and some DMP something...

i'll ask him to bring the monitor and CPU together to try the recalibration of the Frequency.

Odds are you set things up at your place using a monitor other than the monitor normally used with the system. The regular monitor will not work with the current GPU settings. Not all that unusual.

I would do as screwball & Stormcrow mention. Boot into safe mode by tapping F8 during the boot. That should bring up the default low resolution and refresh rate. Then set the resolution & refresh rate. If your friends monitor is a flat panel make sure to set the monitor for its native resolution.

I also assume you installed the graphics drivers after the Windows install as well as other motherboard drivers.

The resolution/refresh rate is too high for his monitor

i got the monitor and fixed it, and i was right it was a Century Old CRT Monitor that can only have the maximum of 800X600 and 16 bit settings on its display, man i dont know why would he even keep it, he spend thousands of dollars in his crappy old car and his crazy women and couldnt even buy a new monitor...

need less to say everything is fixed by lowering the settings...

Maybe his fettish for women and cars exceeds his interest in what his computer does or monitor looks like. Looking back to my younger days "Crazy Women" and some cars were a pretty good thing.
