Default FPS Justin: Still got a problem

Justin requested me to write this for him because he will not have a computer....

My 6600GT was actually still alive. I plugged in the 7600GT that I bought a few days ago and the same problem is still there. I cannot boot windows, even when I boot the computer there are fuzzy horizontal lines all over the screen even in the BIOS. Right after the computer POSTs, I get a BSOD.

What do you think the problem is? If it's not the videocard, what else could it be?

Thanks guys.

Did he do the driver cleanup? That usually makes a difference. Also, has he tried putting the 6600GT back in?

He cannot even get into windows not even in safe mode.

He has not tried putting the 6600 back.

Normally when this occurs its due to either a malfunctioning card or an ill-seated card. Try reseating the card. Also check and make sure the bus looks fine.

Well, have him try the 6600GT back in. I'm doubting it will make a difference, but if it does boot, have him cleanup the drivers all the way back. Then insert the 7600GT and install the drivers.

If he has the lines with both the BIOS screen and the splash screen before he posts, something is wrong with the card. It can't be the drivers, during that time he's running off the card's BIOS.

the lines appear with both the 6600gt and the 7600gt. I'm wondering if the card is not all the way in because i'm not with him when he is putting his system together.

You're right, I missed that. I'm sure it's the seating of the card as well.

Definitely check if the card(s) are seated properly and if the bus is clean, as Panda Man said. It could well be the motherboard, the power supply or another device plugged in a PCI though. I've seen this a few times with 56k modem that were going out of control and giving huge interference.

Is this that DFI board thats he's absolutely abused for the past year, or that Chaintech board Blake gave him?

Try both PCI-16 slots in addition to the solutions recommended above
