Default Emprex 4GB Flash Drive = borked

It's the one that looks like this:
[Picture]

I can't get into it and it won't format.

I try to open it and it says "Not formatted properly" [yay....] and then I try to format and I get this:

and then when I try to format it again it says "Disk is write protected"

WTF!

I know this is a cheapie type of 4gbz, but I still expect it to work more than 8 months...

Sometimes there are tiny little switches on the sides of the flash drives that "lock" it and prevent writing. Make sure no such lock is turned on. Have you tried checking the drive under the Disk Management section of "Computer Management" (found in control panel under Administrative tools)?

Every USB storage device I've used (that I can remember) has always been plug and play with Windows XP. Not sure what your driver issue was all about, sorry.

Yea, Emprex.... I haven't touched one of their things since. That drive did get its work out in my Photography class.... but once the year was over it died. Only reason I bought it was cuz it was $20 from Fry's.
