Default Driver trouble...

So yesterday we reformatted my computer and it seemed like everything went fine. But it didn't...my computer cant seem to get the ethernet controller working and i cant find the drivers i need anywhere. Any clue as to what i should do? I should note that we had to install windows using my hdd on a different computer since my disk drives are broken. Help?

Well, first things first. Can you provide the specifications of the computer you're having problems with? We can't help diagnose the problem if we don't know what we're working with. =)

As far as a premilinary diagnosis, if you installed your Windows OS on a hard drive outside of the system that you plan to use that HDD with the OS on it, that is going to cause compatibility issues. This is especially true if the components, namely the motherboard, is different between the two systems. The drivers for the motherboard you installed on the HDD with the OS on it will be incompatible with the motherboard that you plan to use that HDD with the OS installed.

If i was to reformat on my computer itself, do you think that would fixthe problem?

Anyways...

Pentium 4 3ghz
1GB ram
Ati x800 pro 256MB graphics card

The motherboard is a gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo-A.

If I understand you correctly, you installed a Windows OS on a hard drive outside of the computer you plan to use the HDD with the OS on. Are the motherboards of the two computers exactly the same? If they are not, then this may very well be what is causing your problem.

If this is the case, I highly recommend that you install the hard drive, reformat it and wipe it clean, install Windows on it, install the drivers, and that should solve your problem. Simply put, you cannot swap hard drives with OS/driver data on it between differently configured computers without encountering problems.

Yeah, we took out my hdd and put it in my friends computer to reformat and install, and he has different motherboard. I could take his CD/DVD drive and put it into my computer to reformat again, right? Thanks a ton for your help man.

I tried that once but it didn't seem to work. Should i uninstall the current ethernet controller driver and install that one?

Oh yea, that will never work, putting your hard drive in another computer and reformatting and installing the operating system!!! It has to be in the computer that the OS will run

Oh yea, and WELCOME TO HARDWARELOGIC!!!!!!

Well, that was my original plan, but my friend thought it'd be easier the other way. Guess not, lol.
