Default Display issues

One of the users in my building recently discovered that certain "control panels" that come up when you choose properties are not showing right. Here is one example:

Anybody have any suggestions?

From what I can tell, that looks like Windows XP in classic mode, is it possible the control panel could have been designed to work right with XP in normal mode?

As far as I know, the display control panel should work in either mode... and it is one of them that is affected. If the user opens start\setttings\contol panel then opens display, it is fine, but right clicking on desktop and selecting properties ends up with a pooched dialog. Not all options affected have a work around, that is why I was hoping for a resolution.

I've seen dialog boxes do that when the LCD's native resolution is 1600x1200 but they have it set for something like 1024x768. Exiting out of some games can leave the desktop resolution at a non-native setting.

That is a good idea, but this is not a game-capable machine. It is just a 19" LCD and Windows is using a resolution of 1280x1024 right now. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 it displays the same type of error. Print dialog boxes are also being affected, not enabling some options like duplexing (which is ticking my user off so far)

I don't want to reimage this machine, as it was just set up with a new HDD not more than 2 weeks ago. (ran out of space, being a graphic artist and all) Microsoft's website isn't any help at this point.

The key here that I see is "GRAPHIC ARTIST"!!!!!

Have you checked to see if the Graphic program that he is using is causing the issues?
Is he running the program in a different res than windows, as this could cause a problem when he exits the program. Kind of like stated about leaving a game. Some times windows really gets confused as to what the hell res it should be running in if windows runs in one and the app runs in another.

Just a suggestion Lon

My best bet would to update the Intel Integrated graphics drivers.

Looks like a missing font to me.
Double and triple check to see if there's not a missing font in his C:\Windows\Fonts folder. ;D

Put in an NVidia video card and get the same issue, no fonts are missing, so does anyone have additional suggestions?
