Default DATA RECOVERY NEED HELP PLS>>>

hi you all... this halutz again...

I have a big situation...

I bought a maxtor 200gb 7200rpm hd last night and I installed it following the instuctions... unfortunately... this cursed CD of maxtor "WIPEOUT MY 120gb Seagate Barracuda"

I was talking with jeff last night about this, but the only thing we are able to come up is how to get the 2 hard drives working together...

The sad part is I can no longer access the Seagate HD...

Seagate HD is running with power able to be detected by bios and XP freshly installed to my maxtor hd... but I can't find any of my files there its a 9gb of important files documents music videos as in all my precious is in there...

The windows still shows that it is still occupying the space... so I have the chance that it is still recoverable but I don't know how and where to get it recovered...

need your HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! T_T

So if I'm reading this right, you have the 120GB hooked up as a secondary drive, and the 200GB is now your main OS drive. Does your 120GB show up on your PC as a full 120GB partition, or how is it showing up?

At some point, you're likely going to need to run a data recovery program, but we have to figure out exactly how your drives are configured and recognized first. Once we get to that point, my personal favorite data recovery app is File Scavenger by Quetek. It's not free, but at $49, it's not uber expensive either. There are free alternatives out there though, one of which is an older version of Handy Recovery (scroll down). Worth checking out, though I will say that that File Scavenger has consisently done a better job than other apps in my experience.

no its showing in 111gb partitions... which I'm hopefully the ray of hope that I can recover it....

my 200gb is main with os...
my 120gb is now the secondary...

$50 for data recovery... I don't think I'm willing to go that far... I just spend $100 on my maxtor... and two new Antec Trispeed Fans...

i'm absulutely broke... T_T I just starting paying off my credit cards... T_T

it depends weather the maxtor software did a full or quick format. If it did a full, that means it wrote 0s to the drive and everything is gone. A quick format just changes the drive index to apear as empty, if it was a quick, with some software nearly all of your data should be recoverable

I'm confused at what you mean by the Maxtor disk, could you please clarify what you used to format your drive(s)? Did you format just the Maxtor or did you format both the Maxtor and the Seagate?

I was going to point out Stellar Phoenix, but I don't think you are ready to pay the $99.00 needed for a single home liscence.
You can however, try the demo version available from their website. If it finds your data, I might be able to walk you thru the process of recovering it.
You can download the demo here.

Ididn't format both...

what happened is that i got so exicted I bought a new HD, I followed the instructions put in the maxtor, while the seagate is still on there, power on the computer. then it opened windows maxtor not showing put in the cd utilities that maxtor came with it, computer suddenly restart. Maxtor Utilities in DOS version showed up... then it freeze next thing I know that the whole seagate disk my original disk where all my files are WIPEOUT...

now i'm using the maxtor as my main, installled new windows and still the seagate can't be accessed... it showed that it is still occupying the space which is showing 111gb free 9gb used... but when i finally able to open the seagate no file but the space is still occupied...

the 9 gb of data is still in there. but not accessable at all...

sounds like it might have wiped out the boot sector.
First I would use my Windows installation CD to try and repair the drive. Put it in, let it go through its set up, and when it gets to the point where it asks you if you want to install or repair a current installation, press "R" for repair, follow the onscreen instructions (I think it will ask you what you want to repair, choose "1" for the drive that has the data on it).....if this doesn't solve the problem....go through the steps again, but when you are in the repair menu (which will have a DOS interface, type "fixboot" or "fixmbr" at the prompt, it will ask you if you are sure, hit yes....and that will restore your boot sector.
If that doesn't work, maybe we can try some file recover software
