Default Dads Mouse

My dad is running windows XP pro with service pack 2. He has a ps2 mouse and since this morning it hasnot been working at all.

My brother said that this morning when the computer was booting up it worked fine and then just stopped. I have tryed system restore and theres been no joy. HELP!

Wow...odd.

The first and obvious thing to try is another PS2 mouse. Also, try your dad's mouse in another computer. Once you have a PS2 mouse that you know works 100%, test it in your dad's system. The port could be gone - either that or the mouse itself. If the port is gone, then time for a USB mouse. Make sure to try a USB mouse too.

Yeah, mice are pretty straight-forward. As ST!X mentioned, try some other mice and see if they work or not and that will prettymuch narrow the problem down to either the port on the motherboard or the mouse its self.

+1

Definitely nothing fancy. A basic 5-10 dollar mouse will do fine.
