| anytime i use a form of disc to install anything, my computer lags up. yep, the one in my sig (minus the monitor... hoping to grab a 24" soon).anyway, the audio AND video lag. this is the FIRST TIME EVER this has happened to me, and oddly enough, its only happening in XP and NOT in Vista. this doesnt even happen to my DAD'S COMPUTER which is running XP SP2 off of a P3 450MHz, 256MB RAM, and a 15GB hard drive. so there is a flaw here. this is anytime, and im honestly confused and cant figure it out. RIGHT NOW im installing COD2 from a DVD my load on CPU is only 50%, and its lagging. HOWEVER, there is an "Image" in "Processes" called "System Idle Process" and its taking up anywhere from 85 to 98 under the "CPU" heading, which cant be right, and i dont want to end it in case it messes something up, but at the same time thats taking up an unworldly level of CPU in my opinion. any thoughts? thanks guys!!! |

| System Idle Process isn't actually taking away from cpu cycles or anything, just ignore it. I was going to say the drive is dieing but since its working find in Vista, I'm going to say its XP. Ran anti-virus/spyware apps lately? Cleaned the registry? Defragged? You could also try flashing the firmware of your Drive and seeing if that helps. ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe @ 2.80GHz Cooler Master GeminII - Thanks Rich and HL! | The problem has to do with ICH8. Go into BIOS and mess with IDE\SATA config. I believe AHCI(ADvanced Host Controller Interface) is the correct setting. Also go to the Intel website and get the latest ICH8 drivers...
