Take a look at your motherboard. You'll see a small, circular battery on it. Take that out, unplug your system, push the power button for a moment, then put it back in and plug your system back into to the outlet. Start your computer and it should work fine now.

Welcome to the forums! :)

I had him verify in his BIOS that his settings for both his CPU and RAM were not overclocked. They weren't. I also had him ensure that the timings on his RAM were the ones that were default from the factory. They were. I also had him remove 1 kit of RAM and see if the problem still it occured. It did. I then had him install the other kit and remove the first to see if there was any change. There was not, the computer continued to restart.

I asked him if the power to his house went out recently. He replied that the power to his home had been down in his area, and shortly afterwards is when he started having these computer reboots.

I reccomend using the Memtest86 diagnostic program and see if the RAM is reporting any errors.

These types of things are *usually* associated with the BIOS in some way, shape or form. Let me run down a short list of ideas (some of which have already been mentioned):

- Memtest86 is a good first step, just to rule out faulty RAM

- set everything back to default in the BIOS (there should be an option for this), and barring that, reset the CMOS. Your motherboard manual will point out the appropriate jumper on your board to do this

- flash and update the BIOS to the most recent version, if applicable

Other than that, the restarts could be due to overheating (improperly seated heatsink, dust bunnies, etc) or a faulty power supply. I hesitate to point in those directions though, because of the message Asus is giving you.

First try pressing F8 at startup and then chose "Last known good config"
If that doesn't work try booting into safe mode, to eliminate software/OS as an issue.
@ startup, press F8 and choose "Safe Mode"

It depends on how proficient you are with PC hardware....

IF it was me, First I'd open the case and check the CPU heatsink. Is it very dirty? Dust will cause (alot) higher temps. Also try power on the PC with the side panel off........does the Heatsink fan spin at all?

If all is well, then unplug any extra hard drives, CDROM(s) and PCI cards and test.......if it gets better, then your power supply could be the cause.

If still not working, remove a stick of ram (if you have two) and or try another RAM slot.
