| my old computer is in an old chieftec dragon case. very similar styling to the antec 1080 plus view. anyways.. i was using that case for all my new components while waiting for my new case to come. today when i go to put the old motherboard in.. i am having one hell of a time.. and i know i'm probably missing something so stupid. i believe i got the front panel usb connectors installed correctly.. but what i can't figure out is the power/reset connections. my motherboard is an intel D875PBZ, and the front panel connector, or whatever you want to call it.. is a nine pin deal. from the manual for the motherboard i downloaded.. this is the pin layout. pin 1 - - pin 2 pin 3 - - pin 4 pin 5 - - pin 6 pin 7 - - pin 8 pin 9 - not used pin 1 and 3 - HD activity light pin 2 and 4 - power LED pin 5 and 7 - reset switch pin 6 and 8 - power switch pin 9 - power +5v simple enough. but the connectors from the front panel are slightly different. -hd activity led is a 2 pin connector. - no problem -power led is a 3 pin connector. middle one is empty - this is the problem. if i plug it in to pin 2, the other side will be in pin 6 -reset and power are both 2 pins and no problem there speaker.. where do i plug it in?? here is a pdf for the motherboard: http://download.intel.com/support/mo...bz_English.pdf i got the computer working.. the hd led power switch and reset switch work fine. power led and speaker arent plugged in. so right now i have no power led and i don't hear a post beep when i start the computer. before i did have power led and i'm pretty sure i had the post beep. personally i thought the speaker was directly on the motherboard without any need for something to be plugged in. anyways.. TIA -okan |

| Modder-ator | I've also had cases with the 3-pin power LED connector (with two wires). All I did was move the one wire to the middle so the empty pin is on the outside of the connector. Then just plug it into the motherboard so the correct wires line up with the + and - pins on the motherboard header and let the empty part of the LED connector hang off the side. As for the speaker, there should be one built into your motherboard and does not require the connection of an external speaker; check page 25 of the manual. The speaker is usually a small, black cylinder type thing; looks like it is located just under the front panel header. Not sure why you aren't getting a single POST beep on startup though, must just be the way the BIOS on that particular board is set up that it doesn't make any beeps unless there is an error of some kind. You could try starting the system with no RAM and see if it beeps at you! ![]() Last edited by gvblake22; July 11th, 2007 at 10:18. |

| haha yeah i can try making it beep with no ram. but it just puzzles me how it was connected before and working... and now it's not. what can i use to push the pin out to relocate it to the middle position? and can anyone find an owners manual for the chieftec dragon case? i don't know if chieftec is redesigning their site or what.. but when you go to products there isn't any case that shows up. reason i ask is i'm not sure which wire is which on the connectors from the front panel. i trial and error'd it to get it going but i think that could lead to something bad :P |

| if i wasn't so damn excited to get the new stuff in i probably would have paid attention to how they were in there instead of just yanking them out :P |

| Modder-ator | I use the pointed end of a thumb tack to lift up the little plastic "latch" thing on the one side of the connector, then pull the wire out while holding the plastic latch up. It's tricky, but you'll get it. you could also use a safety pin or sewing pin too, basically anything very small and thin to get under the plastic flap. ![]() Last edited by gvblake22; July 11th, 2007 at 11:31. |
