Can't install second HD

After having too many problems with my laptop I decided to do a clean install on my laptop. Just to make sure I took my second drive out, but now I cannot re-install it. All I get is the black HP screen with 2 options <ESC> to change boot order and <F!)> To enter setup. Everytime I boot up I have to chose ESC and tell the computer to start with the laptop drive but unfortunately the second drive doesn't show up anywhere even with the disk management option. The second drive is full of data as well.

It's the lid for the second drive. I didn't put the lid on and now it's working.

Well not the lid HP have that stupid HD caddy and the lid holes and the bracket holes don't match anymore So in order to make the lid fit the HD has to backup a bit and the pins can't go all the way in. This is ridiculous. I'm gonna have to take a drill and enlarge the holes I think.

I managed to get it to work but not sure if it's the safest thing I didn't push the pins from the adapter all the way in so the holes can match. What I don't understand is I had that second drive installed for almost 6 months now, I don't understand why it was working before.
