| i'm having problems when i try to install half life 2. half life is one of those games that you have to have internet access in order to activate it. before i get the chance to install the game i have to install this program called steam. steam installs fine, but right after i install steam it has to get updates. the problem is there. while it says steam is updating it doesn't move. and when i go to close it, it stops responding. i think the problem is with the internet here (i'm at the library on a wireless conection). i don't have internet of my own but last night i was at my friend's house and i used his cable connection and everything was fine. i had the game installed and was playing it. is there any way i can troubleshoot this? or is it just the library's connection here and there's nothing i can do. | I think its very possible that the library has things like steam and other game related things blocked. So when you used your laptop at your friend's house, it worked fine? If thats the case, get all the updating done, and just disable your internet connection when you want to use Steam, that will allow you to go in off-line mode. | yeah i find that dumb, the only bright side if you lost your CD you dont have to look further you can DL it from STEAM....and yes all library are blocking massive trafic on their LAN/Internet, so using STEAM is not feasible... like where i use to live, ISLIP NY library very nice place, it have its own study room where you can connect your Lappy dirrectly to the HUB with CAT cables, but downside the blocke massive Internet Traffic czusing big files not to DL... ![]() Abit IP35-E C2D E6750 G0 @ 2.66ghz [TR Ultra120EX] EVAG 8800GTS [TR HR03] Corsair [2gbDual@800] 820GB HDD[120/200/500] Antec TP 550W Silverstone Temjin 09 Saitek Eclipse1 & Razer DeathAdder Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit |
