Default Boot Problems

Hello, I have a computer I built about 2 years ago and recently I have noticed this problem. This has only happened twice but both times I am using bit-torrent to download some stuff, and they are rather large files. Yesterday I go to my computer after it has been sitting there for a while and I am able to use it for about 5 seconds then boom, it crashes.

The problem is it wont start back up, the last time after a couple tries it did start back up but this time nothing. It will boot up in the black screen and show the little energy saver emblem up in the top it will boot the cpu and but seems to freeze after it gives the CPU-ID. Almost instantly after I turn it freezes. I have put a huge fan to cool everything off but that didn't work anything. I cant even click delete or boot in recovery, no keys work.

Specs:
-Gigabyte GA-7N400L
-AMD 2500+ Barton
-ATI 9600XT
-2x512mb Corsair 3200

Help please .

You mention using Bit-Torrent, my first suggestion would involve making sure you are not a victim of a virus, spy-ware, or any malware.
I'd recommend using a good anti-virus, like AVG, as well as a couple spyware programs like AVG Malware, Ad-aware, Spy-Bot. your problem may be as simple as clearing any problem apps off your system.

First welcome to HardwareLogic

Second, YOU HAVE A VIRUS!!!

Fair chance that it is an old one named Sobig!

About all you can do at this point in time, is use another computer to download a good anti virus boot disk that will get rid of the virus when you boot from the cd.

By boot the CPU and freeze after it gives CPU-ID, do you mean when you first turn the computer on, when it detects the CPU and does a quick check of the RAM and looks for IDE/SATA devices, or once your actually in windows?

If its the former that freezes, try disconnecting all un-needed devices, ex, Sound cards, CD-ROM drives, hard drives , etc...If that suceeds, try plugging your harddrives back in, test it. If it fails, then there is something wrong with your Hard Drives, or the motherboard, it that passes, reconnect your hardware one by one, testing it each time until it stops working again. That will be your culprit of the problem.

If it is Windows that is freezing, then like the others said, try burning a bootable anti-virus program to a CD, and trying it on the computer

This problem happens before it boots into windows. It doesnt do any ram check or drive verification like it normally does, just gives the BIOS Version, CPU and CPU-ID. It freezes completely right when I turn it on, so I can access anything. I wil try unplugging all the drives and just boot with the mobo.

*Thanks for the welcome.

Try resetting your BIOS by removing the battery on your motherboard, then switching the CLR_CMOS jumper pins for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then return the jumper to the original pins and re-install the batter (make sure the positive side with the writing is facing out toward you).
