Default Boot Error

I removed a backup HDD and a bad disc drive. When I connected everything back up I got a keyboard failure and then it gave me a boot failure. I put my windows cd in and it would boot using that but the keyboard wouldn't work so I figured that the ps2 connection had a problem so I installed a usb keyboard. I still get a keyboard failure at startup and boot error but when I boot from the XP cd I have a working keyboard now. I cannot access the bios since the keyboard doesn't work at boot. Any ideas what I should try next?

Reset the CMOS?
I got a boot error one time on some board because I had boot up floppy seek enabled but I didn't have a floppy drive intstalled. Could that be a possibility?

I reset the cmos and now it won't even boot from the windows cd. Anyone got a gun so I can put it out of it's misery?

Ok, what exactly happens when you turn on the machine? What POST messages do you get?
You mentioned you cannot get into the BIOS at all, is this accurate? Can you try another hard drive maybe?

The keyboard doesn't work on boot so I can't access the bios even though the bios screen shows. Then it goes past the bios and gives me a error screen that lasts about a second, I've read some of it and it says the battery is low ( I changed batteries and still get that message ) and it says keyboard failure. This is a black screen the one that shows the proc and other system info not a BSOD it also says hit F12 for network boot. After that it goes like it's going to boot up and the flashing space sign in the upper left of the screens starts, then it says something like boot failure: system haulted.

Hmmm, sounds like you need to find a keyboard that works so you can get into the BIOS and figure out what is going on.

I went from a ps2 keyboard to a usb one and I still have the same problem. I also tried 2 other known good ps2 keyboards.

wow....this is a tough one.
Is this your system in your sig?
Have you been having any other problems with it? Are you the HDD are bad and not the motherboard?
