Default Bad Checksum Error - Be Gone!!

::sigh::

Aright folks, gold star for whomever has the miracle suggestion. For no particular reason, I went and flashed my A8N32-SLI Deluxe's BIOS to the latest version (1205). The flash went fine, but on every reboot, I'm getting the common 'Bad Checksum Error' with two options:
  • 1) Press F1 for setup
    2) Press F2 to load default settings
Option 1 is fine and dandy, but any changes I make when re-entering the BIOS do not stick. Option 2 works in that it boots to Windows, but it loads a bunch of crap that I don't want, such as RAID drivers and my onboard audio. And, even with the default options set, I still get this same message every time my PC reboots, so not only am I forced to run above mentioned crap, but I get an annoyance on top of it all.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken

- Reflashed the BIOS

- Reflashed to a previous version

- Cleared the CMOS via jumper

- Rebooted several times

- Loaded defaults from within BIOS and saved

- _______________ <---- your suggestions go here

Troubleshooting Steps I Won't Be Taking

- _______________ <----- JokersWild's humorous suggestions go here

- Upgrade to AM2

Did you use winflash or a floppy to flash the BIOS? Maybe try reflashing with whichever you didn't use?
This is a toughy, you've already gone through all the trouble shooting steps I would have suggested (short of RMA'ing the board).

Via the floppy method. Winflash won't run, it says:
  • Fail to open ACPI ATK0100 kernel mode Driver. Please install this driver first.
This board may have issues, as AFUDOS was the only utility I could get to work. AMIFLASH, AFLASH, and EZ-Flash (Alt-F2 upon bootup) all would not work for one reason or another, depending on the program.

I shoulda never sent Rich his MSI K8N Diamond Plus back after I reviewed it... :P

Paul I would love to repay you with some help with all the help youve given me with my problems and my build. But considering your 2000% smarter than me with problems like this all I can do is say sorry and I really hope some one has and answer you bro. Good luck.

New battery?
Call ASUS

Connect some jumper cables to your car battery then attaching them to the prongs of the bios battery clip..

It sounds like the battery to me, too. I've had the same problem on an old Win95 notebook when the CMOS battery died.

The battery *shouldn't* be toast, as it's not that old nor should a BIOS flash kill it. My hunch is that the BIOS chip is messed up, or some other silly quirk I'm overlooking.

As it stands, I've shot an email to Asus for an RMA, which I'll go through with unless the issue gets resolved before then. At that point, I think I might try to locate a used K8N Diamond Plus on the cheap and just selling the replacement Asus - the MSI's a better board anyway.

Do you have another battery you could try in that mobo? Perhaps from the mobo of another system? Just borrow one and find out. :-)
