I usually place about a pea sized amount on the CPU and spread it with a old credit card.

You need to make sure you clean off the thermal pad material that comes with the stock Intel cooler before you apply AS5. I use the two part Arctic Silver cleaner.

More is NOT better when it comes to using this stuff. If you follow the directions on Arctic Silvers web site, you will be fine.

No. Only on the processor. Here's a direct link to AS's instructions for a E6600: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appi..._dual_wcap.pdf

You did pull the protective film off the thermal pad before installing the heatsink did'nt you? If you failed to pull that little bit of plastic off it would cause the cpu to overheat. KOMMANDER

All of the above is correct. But I gotta say, 50F is an awesomely good temperature for any CPU. Unless you meant to type 50 C? And even then, that ain't bad at all.

I have to agree that 50C is not bad if the CPU is under load. I do not see a rference here if this temp is under load or idle.

50c at idle is a tad high but at load thats a decent temp. Nothing to get frantic about. Just the ambient temperature in the room has a huge affect on the temp of your CPU. We are in the summer months so if you don't have AC in your house, you could see some high temps.

Oh and Just to reiterate, when it comes to AS5 more is not better. Use only the prescribed amount for your CPU. In most cases it's just a small dot in the center of the CPU, no need to spread it around. To make sure read the directions for your CPU.
