Default Anyone running 8800gtx + Starcraft?

Starcraft continually crashes on my computer. Does one of several things:
1) On load, the colors go haywire and rainbow like. When that happens, the screen will shortly go still, though I can hear the mouse highlighting the selections in the background.
2) When I run it in compatability mode, the colors don't go crazy, but once I go about two menus deep into the game, all kinds of black lines are in the upper left hand quarter of the screen. I can still see what I'm doing (with difficulty) but it eventually leads to a system crash in game.
3) Once in a while, I don't get the lines or the colors, but it still leads to system crash in game.

My computer still runs BF2 on max settings perfectly.... weird stuff to me.

Specs of important stuff:
q6600 (stock)
680i SLI mobo
8800 gtx
x-fi professional

any ideas, people?
Edit: My suspicion is that the gtx is having problems being backwards compatible with such an old game.

Thanks,
-Noctis

I thought only South Koreans still played that 10 year old game.

on nvidia's website its showing latest drivers is 175.16 that was released may 13th. This is for the 8800GTX for XP right? I use the same drivers (vista 64 bit version though) for my GX2 and haven't had a prob yet. Kind of hard to see what the problem is, could be a voltage issue with the GTX perhaps? I've even run Warcraft II on my desktop and it ran fine (even in vista 64bit)

Where did you d/l that driver version? Sounds like a mobile version driver like notebook versions

Hmmm. I downloaded it from EVGA website. Should I go through NVIDIA.com (or whatever the addy is)? I haven't changed any voltages; all is stock. Shall I list the voltages?

Ha! True, true. I'm trying to play some games with my girlfriend's siblings's friends, and their computers have trouble running anything. Starcraft and quake III (low settings) are the only games that I have that I know their computers can run.

Edit: It seems the way to read the driver version from the device manager is to observe the last 5 digits of the number: 6.14.11.7516. So yeah, I've got the most recent drivers.

I went back to 174.XX after having several slowdowns with 175. You might wanna do the same. :)

As far as FPS, I remember that I did get fraps to work once with it, and the counter just read 999

WOW Quake 3 on low settings, that must be painful. The Geforce 2 was the king of video cards when that game first came out. I remember getting 200 FPS using a Geforce 3 when they first came out back in 2001. Another slew of games you could look at are the Half Life mods, there are a ton of them, and they play pretty well on old computers.
