Default 8800GTS and TV-out

HAI GUYZ! Haven't been here in a while. Between work and college... :shot:

Ok, so everybody knows nVidia didn't have the best drivers in Vista, especially in the TV-out department. Well, in Vista, XP and kubuntu, I never could get TV-out to work. At all. I've searched google, searched nad posted at the nvidia forums, still don't have a solution. My TV is a piece of crap, its a 25" analog TV with composite input (no s-video), but I still enjoy watching movies and such on it. I have tried an s-video to composite converter to no avail, different composite cables, and this this adapter. With that adapter, I can get a signal to the TV. But its completely messed up. I can't really describe it, so here is a video of it:

The Cpanel detects the TV... Kind of..

Click the image to open in full size.

That's also without forcing TV detection. I've also tried hooking it up to my VCR, which also doesn't have s-video. No Dice. Changing the resolution just changes the distortion, it doesn't help. Tried different drivers as well, from 158.XX to the latest 163.44. Nothing.

Now, the cable and the adapter work on my old 9600XT, so I know they are good. Any ideas as to what may be causing my TV out woes?

So...if the CPanel is recognizing your "TV" there as the Analog Device (I assume...) then usually I would say check your cables...but that has already been done. I say grab another set of cables to make sure that specific port on your video card isn't messed up!

Maybe try another TV and make sure it's not just the Composite Video connection on your TV?

youll gana need to update you Cpanel... then do underscan of the 8800gts throught he s-video - composite, i have an adapter
like this
Click the image to open in full size.

but i would recommend HDMI output if its available, none the less, there is issue over the resolution on TV versus LCD TV, it just dont fit, it cuts a portion of the top and bottom and sides of the desktop in TV output....

btw i have clone view of my BenQ FP91G+ and Sharp Aquos 32" its very difficult at start but by the time goes you'll be able to navigate through the Cpanel, and there is also a bug when the TV wont be detected, i would recommend restart the computer while both output is connected then it should fix itself...

Nope, I tried 2 sets of cables, and use the adapter plus both cables on my old rig with a 9600XT in it. worked perfectly with both cables.

Have you tried going to the lowest resolution your system supports?

I found this to be interesting about 8 years ago when trying to display a computer screen on a picture tube TV. If your TV is old and analog only, this may pertain to you as well. Back then though, I had a video card that would scale down to 640x480. I can't go lower than 800x600 now.
