Default 8800gt is slanted in its slot

So I finally got everything and put my computer together, except when I turn it on the monitor displays nothing, it shows an orange light and then goes into sleep mode. I think I ruled out most other things, and then I noticed, my 8800gt is SLANTED in the PCI-E slot, it's lower in the slot at the front than it is at the back... The bracket is preventing it from sitting straight in the slot, it seems. Has anybody *ever* had a problem like this, and what the heck can I do?

I'm not sure I understand your problem exactly, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
And if you think it's not making proper contact, then it's probably not making proper contact. Don't try to start it over and over else you might just fry something.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

so, in the first picture, you can pretty clearly see that edge of the card isn't parallel with the back of the case.

The second picture didn't turn out so well, but I tried to show that there's a gap from the case to the bracket at the top but not at the bottom

the third and fourth pictures are of the pci-e slot with the card in it, you can see that the 8800gt gradually pulls out of the slot as it goes from left to right. If I had a better camera, you could see on the right the top of the metal that's supposed to be inside of the PCI slot

It seems that the bracket is slightly out of place, maybe? I screwed it in but the back edge of the card still doesn't fit right into the slot.. :(

From what I can tell, is there is a little tab hole in the bottom of the motherboard tray, right underneath the motherboard. If you look at the bottom of the video card, you will see a little tab that extends out just a little. Some times with these large dual slot video cards, they can be a real pain in the butt to get lined up with the slot.
Pull the card and start over. Try and go in the case toward the PCI-e slot even with the video card. Make sure that the tabs slide down into the slots and then push the card into place with easy even pressure.

Good luck, and keep us posted. I am sure this is the issue from the first picture!! You can see the slot and you can tell that the tabs are not in said slots.

problem is that is as far back and down as I can push the video card, the bracket at the back is right against the case but it still needs to go back and down some more... I'll give it a shot though

So, I tried to do what you said, and it does look better, the tops of the metal bits aren't showing above the slot... but still no go. The monitor gives an orange light and then goes into sleep mode. The monitor works fine on my other computer

That may be, and you might have to take a pair of pliers and just gently tweak them tabs just a little tiny bit to get them to slide in. They have to slip into the slots or the card will not seat properly.

before I start with the pliers, can you explain or show me what tabs you mean exactly?

thanks for the help by the way :) it's just frustrating to finally have everything I need and not have it working..

haha, and yes, I've plugged the 6 pin power connector into the card, the cooler blows air and everything. There's two little pins on the side, but from what I've read so far they aren't there for any reason (plus they're totally blocked by the cooler on top of the card).

slide the card in so that the rear metal plate is flush with the rear of the case slot and try to keep it going straight down so the rest falls into the mobo tray slot... I had a similar issue with my X1950GT, just had to do this.
also the little tab, you can look down to see if it is bent back or forward and guide it in that way.

Thanks HL and Corsair!
