Default 2 SATA HDDs and 1 SATA DVDRW - problems!

Hey gang,

I have a 160GB SATA HDD, a new 250GB SATA HDD, an SATA DVD-RW, and a 80GB IDE.

With all hooked up at the same time, My Computer only shows the 2 originals - the 160GB and the 80GB - I don't have any access to my 250GB HDD.

Help?

Thanks guys!

You might have to format your new drive... sorry, don't know about the DVD drive.

Well the thing is after I started up the computer with the 250GB being in there for the first time, it installed it and asked me to restart - which is what I did - it comes up in device manager as being installed properly, but I still don't see anything in My Computer.

Oh another thing, even without the 80GB in that mix, the 250GB Seagate still doesn't work.

I'm going to try to unplug the DVD drive and see if the 2 SATA hard drives work on their own and report back.

A few things. There might be some drive management (drive letter) issues. What O.S. are you using. Also, does your mobo have seperate sata connection for RAID? Just wondering if you have them plugged into the wrong connections on the mobo...

SATA0: 160GB SATA (main C drive with Windows Vista Ultimate x86 installed). SATA1: 250GB SATA. SATA2: DVD+/-RW drive.

Maybe something that has to be worked out in the BIOS? Is there a specific menu/sub-menu that I should look out for?

That will depend on your mobo, and the installed bios. Also, have you checked to make sure you have the latest bios for that mobo?

I would have been able to tell you quicker with XP but I'm sure Vista has a similar disk management, Im just not able to check for you but if you do a search for drive letters or disk management in the vista help/support you may be able to find the settings. from there you should be able to see if vista detects the drives at all...

In Vista, you can go to your control panel, Administrative tools, computer management, storage, and then disk management, and see if you have an unassigned drive. If you do, that is where you can format the drive so that windows will be able to see/use it through Windows explorer.

Thanks Stinger. I just happen to be at work.. Only XP here and I am not proficient enough at Vista yet to give all that off the top of my head.
