Default User Reviews & Guides

I'd very much like to start posting user reviews of products (that you own or are planning to purchase).

Your input benefits you in that you are getting published (something thats harder than most people realize). You'll be getting an opportunity to share your experience and knowledge with others...getting your name out there......and you'll also be helping other make good buying decisions.
Before you worry that your work isn't good enough, consider that it goes through the editing process of Paul and me, and between us we can make anything look professional.

User reviews are an important part of any community. First it removes any question about "cherry picked" parts...meaning that your experience is exactly what other should expect. Second, it shows people what the "average" user can achieve...meaning that their is no jedi powers of overclocking or tweaking being used.

Please contact me or Paul if you have any questions.... If its not computer related, we'll post it here in the member section...you never know...your opinion might really help people make a good buying decision.

To add to the above, please feel free to post hardware/software reviews, guides, How-Tos, or Editorials. Rich and I are constantly look for fresh material and perspectives, and anything that gets posted in this sub-forum will be read by us. At times, we do have available slots on our main page for additional content, so we'd like to encourage you folks to post material whenever you have the time/desire; it just may end up published! Let's run down some FAQs:

What kind of things do you want reviewed or written about ?
Please feel free to review whatever you want. If it's somehow not appropriate for this sub-forum, we'll just relocate it.

As far as guides are concerned, they can be about pretty much anything. Think about topics you know people ask a lot of questions about, or something you've learned since joining our community. no subject is really too simple, or complicated.

I want to review _______, but it's already written about. Should I bother?
Yes! Regardless of whether we, or anyone else, has reviewed a product, it's always helpful to have second (and third, fourth, etc) opinions. Most of our write-ups on our main page contains links at the end to other reviews around the web based on this same philosophy.

Can I add pictures?
We highly encourage the use of pictures throughout a write-up. We prefer that you keep the width at 500 pixels, especially for anything you'd like considered for our main page.

I'm not a very good writer, I'm afraid you'll laugh at me.
Regardless of writing skills, we laugh at everyone, and we're often lauged at as well (mainly Drew). Just as with the rest of the forum, flaming members will not be tolerated, so fear not! And if it's something that we'd like to post on the main page, as Rich pointed out above, it will go through the editing process of both of us.

I want to write a guide/review/How-To/Editorial, but I don't want it published on the main page. Can I still post it in here?
Certainly! We would never publish anything without the author's permission, and if you really want to drive the point home, simply put a disclaimer at the end of your post.

If you use my review/guide/How-To/Editorial, will you change the wording?
Anything that we use for the main page goes through the editing process of both Rich and myself. We like to keep changes to an absolute minimum, but any article submitted will inevitably undergo at least some minor revisions. The amount of editing can be a little or a lot, depending on what we need. Either way, it is still your article and you will be given credit.

Can I be part of the staff?
From time to time, we do add to our staff. When we're in need of a new writer, Rich and I get together and discuss possible candidates that we're familiar with. If you have not been previously published, the best way to earn consideration is to post content in this forum. Again, we read everything that gets posted, so get to writing!

And keep in mind that we welcome just about any topic, big or small. The whole goal of HardwareLogic is to provide a stepping stone for new/inexperienced users to learn the basics, things that veterans take for granted. Most anything is fair game.

Just a friendly reminder guys:

Guides/Articles/Reviews don't have to be a 300 page masterpiece, they can be a simple 2-3 page article on a topic that helps people. If you can't think of a topic, ask a staff member for ideas.

I'm working on a pretty hefty review and guide if you will of Photoshop.

Oddly enough, CS2 and CS3 have a lot of similar features, but at the same time CS3 is a big jump. A few of the situations may differ which is why it will be a bit challenging to accommodate the CS2 users, so I've put together a little computer beside me with CS2 installed, so I do everything twice to make sure to include the little difference. So I guess it's:

<BEAST>'s Ultimate Beast-Size Photoshop CS2 and CS3 Guide...

...for now.

I'm not counting on finishing it by the end of June. I just don't see it happening with my new full-time job at Rogers. Most of it will be done one weekend day a week. So I'm aiming for the end of July...ish...
