Default Secure Your Firefox Passwords

If you use Firefox along with the "Save my Passwords" feature, you may be at "risk" of your passwords being stolen. This is especially dangerous if you use a public computer, check "save my password" without thinking.

In Firefox, if you go to Tools > Options > Security > Show Passwords > Show Passwords > Yes it will show all your saved passwords right there in plain text.

So how do you prevent access to this? Well you could stop saving your passwords with Firefox, or you could just set a master password.

To set a master password go to Tools > Options > Security > Check "Use a master password" create a password and click ok.

Now whenever you go to a page where your password is saved, or you go to look at your saved passwords Firefox will ask you for master password :D

Make sure if you ever use a anyone else's computer, clear all history, cookies, cache and passwords before you are done.

Very nice! I didn't even know it was that easy for someone to get your password... Thanks for the heads up!

Why not just enter your paypal password in the end, instead of having to type a master password? Seems a bit ridiculous to me. First you're removing a step, then re-adding it.

So if you are saving different passwords to multiple websites, you only ever have to enter your one master password with firefox.

Or someone gets your master password and has all your passwords? It's like keeping a key of a locker full of keys. :P
To each his own I guess, but I prefer to remember my different passwords =P

I just use Roboform Pro. With one password that I keep safe, I have one-click access to all my passwords and logins, and when I need to change a password so that I can continue to login, I can. Plus I can backup my passwords if I have to. No need to write them down where someone can find them ever.

Why not just use Portable Firefox and have everything stored on your USB thumb drive (with it password protected)?

Thanks HL and Corsair!

A opposed to them having access to all you're passwords without a master password?

This is specifically for people who rely on Firefox to store passwords and want to keep them safe. I don't recommends you store passwords ANYWHERE but you're head.
