Default my new laptop

just got my new laptop (dell XPS M1530) few days ago. I ordered it from Dell, from their site where I was able to upgrade few things before the purchase. 1st. I chose the 160GB 7200 RPM HD instead of the 200GB 5400 RPM one coming stock. this cost me nothing but I figured I'm better of with a smaller but faster HD. next I chose the sexy red\silver color ($50 extra) instead of the plain black. I also added 2GB of RAM making it 3GB all together. the rest I thought was OK so I left it as it was: CPU: core 2 duo T7500 4MB L2 cache, 667FSB Ram: 3Gb, DDR2 667Mhz VGA: nvidia 8600GT 256MB built in webcam: 2MP HD : 160GB 7200RPM LCD : 1280x800 and finally I've got my 1st vista OS. the first thing was to remove all the bloatware the laptop was infested with :) than I ran a 3dmark06 to check how is the video card doing @ default. well it's nt much, 4150 points. I also noticed that the CPU heats up to 72C, which is way too much for me, so this will be my 1st. project: tto remove the underside and remove the coolers from the CPU and VGA and after cleaning them, reapply the TIM (AS5). I will also try to attach little cooling fins on everything possible (I also noticed, my VGA card runs pretty hot: 56C @ idle and in the high 80's @ load). I will report back on what I was able to do and hopefully improve. till than I give you some pics about my new baby (and first laptop ever ). Click the image to open in full size. Nice looking Laptop. I wouldnt worry to much about the temps as Laptops are notorious for running hot. A lap cooler would drop it a bit, I expect.

Is that a fingerprint scanner I see under the arrow keys? Very cool! Have you tried it out yet?

That looks like some nice furniture, you wouldn't happen to be in some five star hotel/resort in Spain would you?

unfortunately when you cramp that much power into that little space, everything's gonna run hot. my GPU when playin WoW jumps to 60, my CPU goes to 50 and i swear you cant touch the bottom left of the notebook where the exhaust fan is. Btw nice to see the diff between the GS and the GT is about 2000 3dmark06 score lol. Stupid HP only shipping 8600GS.

(thanks blake!)

Sweet! I did the same with my HDD and went with the 160 GB 7200 RPM in my Precision M90 I got last spring. Likewise my first laptop. Thus far I love this thing especially when I travel.

yes it is a fingerprint reader and no I haven't tried it yet but I'm planning to :) will report on it too. and yes I happen to be in Marbella Beach's Marriott five star hotel with my 2 brothers (one being in europe 1st time in 17 years - he lives near Orlando, florida and the other who is @ mainz university in germany). actually we met all 3 of us like that first time in 14 years :)) here is the link of the hotel where we are. check out the photo tour: Marriott's Marbella Beach Resort: For a memorable vacation in Marbella later I will make a thread with some of the best pics I made while we were here for 8 days :)
