Default Lexmark X2350 All-in-One

Lexmark 2350 All-in-One
Today We’re taking a look at the Lexmark 2350 All-in-One printer.

Taking the printer from the box I was disappointed to see that there was no USB printer cable included with the printer but at $39.95 from CompUSA that isn’t surprising. The printer did come with a manual, installation cd, print cartridge and a large set-up sheet for getting started.

Setting up the printer was fairly easy and I imagine that even the likes of stinger or TTPete would have little trouble getting started.
Plug the power cord into the back of the printer and then the outlet. Pull out both sheet feed trays and raise the front lid to insert the 1 cartridge that the printer uses.

There’s a rod that comes out and locks into place to hold the lid up for inserting the cartridge and you need to lift the lid and push the rod in order to lower the lid again. Though not hard to do I find the printers that have a separate door for inserting cartridges more convenient.

The next step is to install the software. Although it came with a cd and doesn’t list vista as a compatible OS I did find drivers at Lexmarks website for Vista in both 32 and 64 bit flavors. Next all you need do is plug in the USB cable, load paper in the tray and the software prompts you to print a test page. After the test page is printed you put it into the scanner and hit the scan button. The printer reads the scan and adjusts the printer automatically for color. Below is a picture of the 3 buttons on the printer. One is for power and the other 2 are for copy and scan functions. Both the copy and scan functions work as one touch for easy use but you can also adjust settings using the software if desired.

Here are pictures of the software start page and the scan page. I scanned an old pic I had and used the option in the scanner to crop the pic. The quality of the scan was good and the option to crop in the software preview pane was handy. I have quite a few old photo’s that I will be scanning to save to disc so this feature will come in handy.

Here are some specs for printing and resolutions.

Device Type
Multifunction, Inkjet
Print speed (b&w)
15 ppm
Print speed (color)
15 ppm
Max resolution (b&w)
1200 x 1200 dpi
Max resolution (color)
4800 x 1200 dpi

The X2350 is the quietest printer and scanner I have ever not heard, a feature that I am grateful for after a few years of listening to my old HP Officejet chugging along. While not the best quality of print available it was quite acceptable considering the low price. The refill cartridge sold for $21.95 at CompUSA but can be had cheaper. From other reviews I’ve read the print to ink cost ratio is quite good which is surprising considering this is where companies usually make up for the low cost of the printer.

Positives- Low cost of printer and ink, ease of use and relative small size for an All-in-One.

Negatives- Ink refill could be easier with a separate door and it would have been nice to see a USB printer cable. Having to go find a Vista drivers at Lexmarks site is not hard but having the driver on the cd and listed on the box would have helped.
Overall I would give this product a rating of 79 out of 100 which is quite good for a inexpensive printer.
