Default eDimensional's Audio FX Pro 5+1 headset

It is an awesome time to be a computer gamer! With the best games to ever be developed coming out or that are out now, and technology on the bleeding edge, computer gaming is at an all time high.
With computer gaming being hugh, almost every gamer has, or is looking at purchasing a good set of headphones! Maybe you are looking to upgrade your current set of headphones. If you are a LAN event attendee, then you most likely have a set of headphones, as this is a requirement in almost all LAN events.
Hear today we are going to take a look at eDimensional's Audio FX Pro 5+1 suround sound headphones.

As you may of figured out, the name indicates a 5.1 sound system. Also indicated on the packaging is the statement "5.1 channel Gaming Headset" to indicate the target market that this headset is intended for. eDimensional teamed up with pro modder Ben Heckendorn for the development of these full ear gaming headsets. Well lets take a closer look, and see if they live up to the packaging hype.

On the back of the package, we see a short introduction explaining the experience you will get from using this headset! Also included on the back is a short introduction from Ben Heckendorn himself describing how he teamed up with eDimensional to design and develop this 5.1 suround sound gaming headset. Also it includes the system requirements, headset specifications, and eDimensional's address along with there web address.

As I opened the package, I noticed, in the center, a little control unit, and below this unit a statement that says "in-line volume control with mute". Once I removed the outer shell of the package I had my first real look at this headset. From just looking at the set, I could see that it was indeed made of quality materials and workmanship!!!

Upon completely removing the headset from the inside packaging, I was able to take a good look at the "in-line" control unit. I was a little surprised that not only does it have the volume + and -, but it also has a slide control that is labeled "force feedback" with the options of off, low, and high! Force feedback???? Well, what this is, is basiclly a base control. As with any real base, it is not what you hear so much, as what you feel. So with that in mind, I figured that it would be some sort of thump feeling when you strapped these suckers on!!! And I have to say, I was not disappointed, the more you turn these up, the more "force feedback" you get!!! They will make your head rattle :-)

After seeing the included accessories that are included with this headset, I was just a little confused on how they would work hand in hand with my on board audio system!!! Hmmmm now how the heck is this going to work??? Well, when all else fails, read the directions! All you do is plug them in, install the software, and away you go on the journey of 5.1 suround sound heaven. These headsets have a built in C-Media sound system!!!!! Thats right folks, you don't even need to have a sound card with your computer to enjoy this headset! Everything is in the headset!

Now I would like to touch a little bit on the software that comes with this headset. After you get the software installed, and download the updates, you can open up the software from your task bar, and you will be greeted with the first screen.

This is where you can set up the different configuration that you wish. The next screen that you are greeted with, is the effects screen. Here you can change the equalizer settings along with different effects!

As you can see from the above picture, there are many, many different effects that you can play with until your hearts desire!! I really haven't done much in this area as of this review, but I can tell you that you can make sounds completely different if you wish.
This next screen has to do with Karaoke and the Magic Voice set up. About the only thing that I really set up in this area was the microphone.

I do not have much desire to do anything in the karaoke area, but many users may wish to play around in this area.
This next, and last screen is pretty much just the information. It tells you the 3D audio engine, Audio CODEC, driver version, what your audion controller is, and what version of DirectX you have installed.

As you can see from this section, there are many things that you can do in the software of these headsets. Heck, you can even do some karaoke if you would like to hear yourself sing HAHAHA!!!Not me, I can't carry a tune across the street!!!

Something else that I would like to mention, these are a Teamspeak certified headset.
Now in the last few weeks, I have been doing some fairly intensive testing in different applications, such as Teamspeak, listening to music, and doing a fair share of gaming, including a LAN Event weekend, and several nights of online killing, well okay, getting killed a lot LOL, and I would like to point out some of the up's and downs of this head set.

The pros:
Awesome price point for a 5.1 suround sound headset
Fantastic real sound when in game, with some outstanding vibration when in full base or "force feedback" mode!
Quality construction, with quality material, that should last several years!
Built in sound system, with no need to have a sound card, or onboard sound on your computer
Microphone that swings out of your way when not in use.
Full ear cover, not the little foam thingys that the cheap headsets have! This is a plus!
Awesome customer support! Another excellent plus!
This is more a personal pro, this headset has a very "old school" look and feel.

The cons:
I don't have a large head, and these are a little tight! Hopfully they will break in.
Have had echoing sound some times when in game, and talking on Teamspeak. This happens, both in XP/SP2, and Vista. I think this is software related.
in-line control seems to be the "weakest link", just that it seems that it will go bad long before the headset ever does

Before I concludes this review, I would like to give our faithful readers some specs right off of eDimensionals site, and a brief personal opinion.

In conclusion, I personally think these are some awesome sounding suround sound headphones!!! They are a set that, the more you turn them up, the better they sound. Awesome vibrative base in several games, such as Quake 4, UT2004, Doom3, Call of Duty 4, and Crysis!!
Very good response when listening to music, with good base vibration, and very crisp sound!
At the current price of $79.99, these are a real deal!!!

As always, I would like to thank eDimensional for suppling this fine headset, as well as all of our faithful readers, and members!

With every thing above in mind, I would have to give these puppies an Editors choice!
92% out of 100%!!!
